With the upcoming rollout of Vipps MobilePay, changes are on the way for the MobilePay platform that will affect us all. In this blog post, we will guide you through what you, as a business owner, need to be aware of and how to ensure you stay up to date.

The latest changes in MobilePay

MobilePay has implemented significant changes to their platform to enhance the user experience and ensure smoother integration with our systems. Starting March 12, 2024, all Danish retailers using MobilePay POS must transition to the new ePayments system. This transition is essential for maintaining an efficient and secure payment infrastructure. While these changes include updates to the API, you can rest assured that your existing QR codes will continue to function seamlessly.

It’s also worth noting that the merger between MobilePay and Norway’s Vipps, approved on November 1, 2022, has been a key factor in driving these changes. The goal of this merger is to create the leading and most widely used digital wallet in the Nordic region. By early 2024, the unified platform will serve over 11 million users and more than 400,000 businesses across the Nordics. As an existing MobilePay user, you will be prompted to install the new MobilePay app, which will retain its familiar blue branding. The transition is expected to be simple and smooth for customers.

New opportunities for store owners

This merger creates new opportunities to expand your customer base. The new platform will host over 11 million users across the Nordics, enabling you to accept MobilePay payments from customers throughout the region.

The merger of MobilePay and Vipps

On November 1, 2022, the merger of MobilePay and Norway’s Vipps was approved. Since then, intensive efforts have been underway to integrate the two platforms into a single, unified solution aimed at becoming the leading and most widely used digital wallet in the Nordic region. By early 2024, the platform will serve more than 11 million users and over 400,000 businesses across the Nordics.

As part of this transition, all current MobilePay users will need to install the new MobilePay app, which will retain its familiar blue branding. The transition is expected to be smooth and hassle-free for customers.
